Tim Allardyce - Water polo player and Aqualink member

Tim began water polo after a friend recognised Tim's swimming ability and encouraged him to join a club. Despite initial challenges in breaking into the close-knit group, Tim's determination saw him through. Over the years, he has become one of the longest-serving members of Melbourne Surge, a club he describes as his first true community.

Tim's training regimen is rigorous. He swims between two and four kilometres per session, incorporating various strokes and equipment. His commitment is unwavering, and he trains outdoors even through the harshest winter months to maintain his peak fitness.

Balancing his passion for water polo with his professional life, Tim teaches music lessons locally and drives for Uber. This flexible schedule allows him to fit in his training sessions, showcasing his dedication to his work and sport.

In 2023, Tim's relentless effort culminated in triumph when he was selected as a reserve for the Victorian Country Championship team. Initially surprised by his selection, he embraced the opportunity and played a pivotal role in his team's success. Reflecting on this achievement, Tim fondly recalls scoring a goal and narrowly missing two others, underscoring his significant contributions on the field.

Tim's story goes beyond his athletic achievements. It embodies resilience and community spirit. He emphasises the importance of perseverance, sharing a powerful message: "Don't give up. Keep going even if you don't make it into the AFL or the Olympics. You might win your first medal in your 40s like I did."

As a beloved member of the Aqualink community, Tim inspires others with his unwavering dedication and positive outlook. Whether in the pool, teaching music, or driving through Melbourne, Tim exemplifies the spirit of perseverance and the joy of pursuing one's passions. His journey is a testament to the power of persistence and the incredible outcomes that can be achieved with dedication and heart.
